World War II Memorial Mobile App Wins 2015 AIVA Gold Communicator Award

PR-2015-aiva-gold-communicator-awardHistory Associates is pleased to announce that the World War II Memorial app, a smartphone app for visitors on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., was presented with a 2015 Gold Communicator Award in the mobile apps: education category. The Communicator Awards are presented by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts and is the leading international awards program that recognizes big ideas in marketing and communications. This mobile app also won a Silver American Advertising Award for Digital Marketing from the D.C. Ad Club last year.

History Associates developed content and imagery for the app, which provides an innovative way to enhance a visitor’s experience at the Memorial. It includes a self-guided tour, a scavenger hunt, an infographic about the Memorial, personal stories from America’s Greatest Generation about the war, and an historical timeline of the conflict. The app is available for download on iOS and Android devices.

The development team was led by Carousel30, a digital agency based in Washington, D.C., who provided the strategic direction, user experience, and graphic design for the app. Other team members included Brightline Interactive, who provided the experiential strategy; and Element 84 who developed both the Android and iOS applications.

The app was commissioned by the Trust for the National Mall, the official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, in collaboration with the National Park Service and the Friends of the National World War II Memorial. The goal of the project is to help visitor
s better appreciate the meaning and significance of the Memorial. The app was made possible with funding support from The Altria Group and the Dr. Scholl Foundation.
