2014: Preserving Digital Content
The Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies–an organization responsible for the sizable amount of electronic information generated during the senator’s years in office–calls on digital archivists at History Associates to launch a pilot project to assess and preserve electronic congressional records. The team develops a set of best practices for archiving digital materials that also ensure that information is not lost as computer software and hardware becomes obsolete. The collaboration with the Byrd Center is a product of History Associates’ long engagement with digital archives challenges. In 1997 the company partnered with Microsoft, MCI, and the National Science Foundation to host the “Documenting the Digital Age” conference, which anticipated questions facing digital archivists today.
