1993: Writing Professional Histories
In 1993 History Associates publishes The History of MCI: The Early Years, 1968-1988. Written by founder Phil Cantelon, the book chronicles the history of the telecommunications pioneer. The book draws extensively on oral histories conducted with MCI employees and is the first professional history to use and cite emails as a primary source. The History of MCI is well received, and in the years to come many other corporations, associations, and government agencies have their story told by History Associates. The company’s talented writers have since produced books for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bausch & Lomb, DuPont, International Harvester, and law firm Arnold & Porter, among many others.
