Head of Archives and Digital Records

History Associates Incorporated (HAI) is seeking an experienced digital archivist who has the skills, enthusiasm and initiative to further strengthen HAI’s archives division and expand our capabilities into the digital archives field.

Reporting to the President, the individual will be responsible for providing strategic direction to the archives staff, including participation in departmental strategic initiatives that will increase group effectiveness and scalability. The individual will oversee the daily operations of the archives and digital archives service line which includes; developing new business, enhancing HAI’s digital archives presence, document, and identify process improvement opportunities in collaboration with colleagues, train existing archivists in the area of digital archives, identify hiring needs and manage budgets.

Key Job Elements:

  • Design, plan and manage analog and digitization projects
  • Create and implement policies and procedures for managing born-digital materials for ingest, storage, preservation, organization, description, and access
  • Collaborate with relevant staff to implement and guide the department’s ongoing institutional strategic initiatives while also strategizing to create and seek out new initiatives
  • Manage, coach, and train staff to implement their work at the highest levels of best practices
  • Plan for preservation and conservation of archival and library materials in analog and digital formats utilizing accepted preservation methods while ensuring the proper care, handling, storage and treatment of materials
  • Participate in training or use other methods to stay up-to-date on DAM developments, such as industry trends and software and technology advancements
  • Develop and implement preservation, migration, and reformatting plans for digital collections
  • Promote History Associates through active participation in local and national professional associations through membership, speaking on panels, publishing articles and assisting with History Associates’ social media strategy

Required Qualifications:

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or the equivalent combination of education.  Specialization in archives and records management preferred
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience of progressively responsible experience in the digital archives field
  • Experience writing proposals and managing budgets
  • Previous successful supervisory experience of professional staff
  • Experience acting as a liaise with all levels of an organization

Computer Knowledge:

Applicants must be proficient in two or more of the following systems

  • Koha, ArchivesSpace, NetX, MARC, RDA, EAD, Dublin Core, DACS

  • Must be highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with established and new clients and vendors
  • Excellent technical and interpersonal skills, including the ability to foster a collegial work environment that encourages change and innovation
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under tight deadlines, with the capacity to work across several teams to continually help clients
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment
