Selam joined HAI in August of 2023 as Finance Manager. Selam oversees all areas of the finance department’s daily, monthly, and yearly operations and responsibilities. She supports HAI’s senior leadership team to determine project and company profitability, prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, and provide additional needed support. Furthermore, she also provides analysis and responses to financial auditors and other external stakeholders; produces and manages the annual budget, business activity reports and financial forecasts; and reports significant budget differences to management. She presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
Path to HAI
Prior to joining HAI, Selam worked in public, private, and nonprofit organizations. She has over 15 years of accounting and finance experience in both private and public sector.
Selam has in-depth knowledge of financial reports, budgets and analysis. She is well-versed in accounting processes and procedures as well as accounting functions and systems. She has experience in public accounting firm as both staff and senior positions. She has substantial knowledge in government grants and contracts projects with an organization that oversees over $15M US government and international entities that focus on projects/programs in Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia.
Selam received her bachelor's degree in Business and Economics with a focus in Accounting from Indiana University; and went on to complete her MBA from University of Maryland University College. Her passion for historical data led her to this position at HAI.
On her leisure time, Selam has been volunteering for over three years as board member of two non-profit organizations that are based in Washington, D.C. and California.
