Celebrating the Past, Creating the Future, Improving Health Every Day: Sentara Healthcare (2013)
This richly illustrated book follows Sentara from its beginning as the 25-bed Retreat for the Sick to the large healthcare network it has become today, managing eleven hospitals and more than a hundred other sites of care in Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.
The book weaves together the complex histories of multiple predecessor hospitals, traces the development of Sentara’s many service offerings, and captures the essence of the system’s corporate culture. The book is based on research at Sentara archives in Norfolk; secondary sources including magazines, press releases, and bulletins; and a dozen oral history interviews with key figures in Sentara’s history.
Hardcover with dust jacket, 8¾” x 11¼”, 154 full-color pages. Published in 2013.
