The Litigation Support team’s skilled historians have undertaken numerous FOIA requests, FOIL requests, and open records requests with an array of federal, state, and local agencies. Although federal agencies must respond to FOIA requests within 20 business days, the response often only acknowledges your request, with actual fulfillment taking much longer. Some agencies commonly take months or even years to respond to certain FOIA requests. Our deep knowledge of agency records, understanding of agency retention schedules, and proprietary in-house resources enable us to quickly identify which materials to request and to work with records gatekeepers to guide requests to final release.

Our Litigation Support team has developed several proprietary databases that enable streamlined, targeted requests for documents in the possession of federal agencies—particularly files still under agency control. We also maintain a database of all significant U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) contract actions since fiscal year 1966. This resource is vital when requesting contractual records through the FOIA process.
