HAI is pleased to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) this year. Dr. Kenneth Durr, vice president at HAI, co-authored the Association’s commemorative history book and he will be speaking about AGC’s history at an upcoming conference.
“The history book tells the story of AGC’s evolution over the years, but it also shows how our core mission to serve the construction industry remained the same,” noted Brian Turmail, Vice President of Public Affairs and Strategic Initiatives at AGC. “It’s also a very enjoyable read.”
Dr. Durr led a team of colleagues in researching and writing the story, which involved a review of pertinent publications and newspapers for context; researching information within the records of AGC; conducting oral history interviews of key individuals; and extensive research to identify and select images to be included in the book.
The resulting publication, 100 Years: Building on Experience, is richly illustrated with images and sidebars, providing a resource filled with historical information, anecdotes, and important successes achieved in supporting the industry.
AGC will be hosting a number of celebrations, including a special program to commemorate their centennial at the Construction History Society of America’s 6th Biennial Meeting on Construction History. Dr. Durr will present the program’s keynote address on Thursday, May 24th, sharing stories and insights from AGC’s history. Mr. Turmail of AGC will be making the introductions and Dr. Durr will be joined by panelists Sara E. Wermiel of Boston University, Scott Lewis of the Engineering News Record, and William E. Reifsteck II of Prowest Constructors
The Meeting on Construction History will be held at the University of Maryland’s School Of Architecture, Planning & Preservation May 24 – 26, 2018. To read a preview of the first chapter of the book and order copies, visit http://centennial.agc.org/our-history.
