History Associates Incorporated Historian Gives Presentation to Corporate Environmental Enforcement Council

On September 19 History Associates Incorporated (HAI) Litigation Research Division deputy director Steve Swisdak gave a presentation entitled "Using History in Environmental Litigation" to the Corporate Environmental Enforcement Council (CEEC) meeting in Washington, DC. Founded in 1994, CEEC is an organization comprised of corporate counsel and environmental professionals from a wide range of industrial sectors that focus on civil and criminal environmental enforcement issues.

In his presentation, Mr. Swisdak focused on historical research HAI conducted on behalf of a CEEC corporate member into World War II- and Cold War-era federal government records. In his presentation, Mr. Swisdak summarized HAI's key research findings and research methodology and discussed the savings that accrue to our clients from HAI's ability to conduct research into multiple federal, state, and local records repositories in a timely and cost-effective manner. Throughout his presentation, Mr. Swisdak discussed the role that professional historical research can play in establishing the historical facts at issue in a wide variety of corporate legal matters, including environmental claims, real estate transactions, and historical land use.

For more than twenty-five years HAI has investigated the historical development of industrial sites across the country, specializing in identifying potentially responsible parties for site contamination and providing a factual basis for natural resources damages cost allocation. HAI also has experience working with corporate professionals to understand their company's often-complex industrial past.
