For NCPH Public History News - Fall 1999

In September, History Associates Incorporated in Rockville, Maryland, published Never Stand Still: The History of Consolidated Freightways, Inc., and CNF Transportation Inc., 1929-2000, by HAI Senior Historian Kenneth D. Durr and HAI President Philip L. Cantelon. Cantelon was also co-editor of the Summer 1999 issue of The Public Historian, which commemorated the twentieth anniversary of the National Council on Public History.

HAI is planning an archives and heritage program for W. Atlee Burpee & Co., one of the country's oldest and largest seed companies. HAI consultant Landis Jones is writing the history of current re-engineering efforts of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. HAI's Gabriele Carey is conducting an assessment of the local history collections of the 88 libraries in the Los Angeles County Public Library system and will train local library staff on local history collection management. An illustrated timeline of the history of the Council on Foundations, for which HAI researched and wrote the majority of the text, was published in April.
