HAI Writes History of Boat U.S.

History Associates Incorporated (HAI) has helped Alexandria, VA-based BoatU.S. celebrate its fortieth anniversary by completing an illustrated history of the boating organization. Organized on a shoestring in 1966 by attorney Richard Schwartz, BoatU.S., or Boat Owners Association of The United States, now has more than 600,000 boater members and is the largest and most influential advocate of boaters' interests in the United States. BoatU.S. offers insurance and towing services, represents boaters on boating and boating-related environmental issues in the U.S. Congress, and, through the BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety, strives for improved safety and environmental stewardship among the boating public. HAI historian Adrian Kinnane researched and wrote the book, titled Behind the Buoy: A History of BoatU.S., and was assisted by HAI's Garry Adelman, who organized photographic and other image material for the history. Behind the Buoy: A History of BoatU.S. was published by BoatU.S. in 2006.
