History Associates Incorporated Writes Anniversary History of Bausch & Lomb

History Associates has completed an illustrated history of optics and eye health pioneer Bausch & Lomb in time for the celebration of the company's 150th anniversary later this year. The book, written by historian Lee Sullivan, is entitled Bausch & Lomb: Perfecting Vision, Enhancing Life for 150 Years. It begins with the story of German immigrant J. J. Bausch and his attempt to establish a fledgling optical enterprise in Rochester, New York. Eventually Bausch turned to friend Henry Lomb for a loan of sixty dollars to keep the business going. With a handshake to seal the deal, the two men became partners and built the company into what has become one of the best known healthcare brands in the world. In a book that blends narrative and high quality images, Sullivan tells the story of the company's growth, struggles, accomplishments, and innovations—from affordable, mass-produced microscopes and the first large-scale American optical glass plant, through the CinemaScope motion picture lens and the introduction of gas-permeable contact lenses, to the development of pharmaceuticals and surgical instruments for improving eye health.

History Associates provides business, government, and nonprofit clients with professional historical research, writing, archives, and records management services. For more information, call (301) 279-9697 or visit www.historyassociates.com.
