Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE History Associates Incorporated, headquartered
in Rockville, Maryland, announces that it has been awarded a major
contract by IBM Corporation. The three-year contract calls for
History Associates archivists to process 8,500 cubic feet of archival
materials, from the origins of the computer company in the early
1900s up through the 1990s. A team of History Associates archivists
is working on-site in New York, where they are performing basic
preservation activities on the records; re-foldering, re-boxing,
and labeling the holdings; and developing an automated, folder-level
inventory. Nancy M. Merz, Vice President for Information
Resources Management Services at History Associates, is pleased
about working with IBM on the project. "IBM is one of the
premier information technology companies in the world," she
said. "Being awarded the opportunity to process and inventory
its records represents a tremendous and exciting challenge for
History Associates. Our goal will be not only to preserve the rich
heritage of a leading corporation, but also to make it easier and
simpler for IBM staff to locate, retrieve, and use historical records
for internal administrative purposes and for enhanced public relations." Ms. Merz continued: "The IBM contract validates
History Associates' growing reputation as a leader in archival
work for high-tech corporations, having already successfully carried
out similar contracts with Texas Instruments, Digital Equipment
Corporation, and MCI, among others." Since its founding in 1981, History Associates Incorporated, one of the world's oldest and largest historical research firms, has provided customized archival, records management, historical, and litigation services to hundreds of clients in corporations, government, the professions, and nonprofit organizations.
