Michele M. Tourney
Archivist Michele M. Tourney works on a variety of projects for History Associates, with a concentration on archival processing, digital preservation, and electronic records management. She also assists division management with the bid and proposal process and marketing. She has experience with website design, EAD encoding, and adapting Microsoft Office products for collections management.
Ms. Tourney is an active member of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC). She has served on several program and local arrangements committees and is currently the co-chair of the Arlene Custer/Herbert Finch Award Committee. Ms. Tourney was also part of the ad hoc committee to redesign the conference's website in 2004 and served as the content webmaster until 2006. In spring 2005 she presented a session on starting an archives program. Ms. Tourney is also a member of the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) as well as the Board of Directors for Peerless Rockville Ltd., a historic preservation organization in Rockville, Maryland.
Ms. Tourney earned her bachelor's degree in history from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania and her master's in library and information sciences with an archives concentration from the University of Pittsburgh. She is the author of "Caging Virtual Antelopes: Suzanne Briet's Definition of Documents in the Context of the Digital Age."
