HAI President Receives Prestigious Award
The Society for History in the Federal Government has presented its prestigious Franklin Delano Roosevelt award to Philip L. Cantelon. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the study of the federal government. Dr. Cantelon, president of History Associates Incorporated (HAI) based in Rockville, Maryland, was recognized for his leadership on the historical challenges and issues facing federal historians since the 1970s and for his "long-standing and stellar work" in the profession. The award citation noted Cantelon's twenty-five years of contributions to the professional historical community, "as an emissary for federal history to government officials, the academic community, and the general public." Dr. Cantelon is only the sixth recipient of the Roosevelt Award, which was initiated by the society in 1985.
A graduate of Dartmouth College, he earned advanced degrees in history from the University of Michigan and Indiana University. Dr. Cantelon formerly taught history at Williams College and served as a Fulbright Professor of American Civilization in Japan.
