HAI Completes Work on Normandy American Cemetery Visitor Center
History Associates Incorporated (HAI) has completed work on the American Battle Monuments Commission's new Visitor Center at the American Cemetery in Normandy, France. Opening on June 6, 2007, the 63rd anniversary of D-Day, the $30 million Visitor Center represents the combined efforts of several organizations, including architects from the SmithGroup, Gallagher & Associates exhibit designers, and producers at G Too Media. In coordination with the US Army Center for Military History, HAI helped develop the exhibits that provide an overview of the D-Day invasion and also highlight the personal experiences of Allied soldiers during one of the key turning points of World War II. Approximately one million visitors travel to the Normandy cemetery each year.
HAI's researchers tracked down records from sources around the world, including: the US National Archives and Records Administration; the National World War II Museum in New Orleans; the U.S. Army Heritage & Education Center in Carlisle, PA; the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa; and the Imperial War Museum in London. They gathered personal stories, photographs, and other material relating to the D-Day invasion to commemorate the 9,387 Americans buried at the Normandy Cemetery.
