Senior Historian Steve Swisdak Published in ABA’s In-House Counsel Committee Newsletter

History Associates senior historian and Litigation Research Division deputy director Steve Swisdak authored an article in the June 2009 issue of In-House Counsel Committee Newsletter. The newsletter, published by the American Bar Association’s Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources, examines issues of interest for in-house environmental attorneys.

Mr. Swisdak’s article, “The Value of Historical Research to In-House Counsel,” focuses on the numerous ways in which history benefits in-house attorneys and corporate decision-makers. He examines how, through diligent historical research, attorneys can learn about their company’s past and leverage this knowledge both to advise corporate managers and potentially help to mitigate current and future legal liabilities. The article also provides a short guide listing electronic and print resources and records repositories that professional historians typically target when researching a company history.
