Gabriele G. Carey
Vice president Gabriele G. Carey, Ph.D., C.A., directs and works on a variety of archives, records management, and historical projects for History Associates’ Western Area Office. She currently oversees and conducts archives planning activities, records retention schedule preparation, survey projects, program assessments, processing and inventory projects, and EAD encoding. She has experience with designing and adapting MS Access databases. Dr. Carey also manages historical research projects and conducts research in corporate history, land use issues, Native American claims, and water rights disputes. She has experience writing research and expert reports and providing expert witness testimony concerning these subject areas.
An active member of the Society of California Archivists (SCA), Dr. Carey has chaired meeting sessions, given session presentations, and served on several meeting local arrangements and program committees. She is currently completing her second term on the SCA board and also serves as chair of the society’s Electronic Environment Task Force and co-chair of the annual meeting Site Selection Committee. Dr. Carey is also a member of the California Historical Records Advisory Board. She is a certified archivist through the Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA) since 1999, is a member of the Society of American Archivists (SAA), and has served as a grant reviewer for the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC).
Dr. Carey holds bachelor's and master’s degrees in history from the University of California, Riverside, as well as a master's degree in German language and literature from the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her doctoral degree in history from the University of California, Riverside.
