History Associates Addresses Gettysburg, Lincoln at New David Wills House Museum

History Associates has completed a multi-year research, writing, and acquisition project to help transform the David Wills House, where President Abraham Lincoln stayed prior to delivering his Gettysburg Address, into a historic house museum. The new museum, owned by the National Park Service, and located in downtown Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, tells the story of devastation and recovery in the face of the Civil War. Gettysburg National Military Park superintendent Dr. John A. Latschar said, "The home of David Wills became ground zero in Gettysburg's recovery effort, with Wills himself fulfilling the roles of the CDC, the Red Cross, and FEMA combined."

For the project, the National Park Service and its museum designer, Gallagher & Associates, turned to History Associates to conduct research, write the exhibit script, and secure high-resolution imagery for the museum's seven galleries. The house museum also features two rooms restored to their original 1863 appearance: David Wills' office and the bedroom where Lincoln stayed and prepared for the Gettysburg Address. The David Wills House Museum will open on February 12, 2009, the 200th anniversary of President Lincoln's birth.

Main Street Gettysburg, a nonprofit organization committed to the historic preservation and economic revitalization of Gettysburg, will operate the museum in cooperation with the National Park Service.
