History Associates Staff Participate in Society for History in the Federal Government 30th Annual Conference

History Associates historians, archivists, and clients participated in the 30th annual conference of the Society for History in the Federal Government (SHFG) on March 19. The day-long event, which was held at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland, brought together government professionals, academic faculty, consultants, students, and others interested in understanding the federal government from a historical perspective.

History Associates' archivist Elizabeth Borja organized and moderated a panel on "Perspectives on Contracting for History and Archives Projects in the Federal Government," which included a presentation by vice president and Information Resources Management Services Division director Anita M. Weber on "Getting the Most from the Contracting Experience." Michael C. Reis, History Associates vice president and director of Litigation Research, and SHFG vice president and president-elect, served double-duty, giving a presentation on "Surprising Sources: Pre-EPA Environmental History at NARA" and assisting in the conference organization.

History Associates' current and former clients were also well represented. Dr. Paul Theerman, head of Images & Archives at the National Library of Medicine, and Captain Todd Creekman, executive director of the Naval Historical Foundation, spoke about the use of contractors on archives and history projects. Dr. Victoria A. Harden participated in a panel on transitions in federal history offices and described her experiences at the Office of NIH History. Captain Alan Dellapenna, Jr., spoke about his experiences preparing the Indian Health Service's "Gold Book" history along with History Associates senior historian Jamie Rife.
